The address
Nerja sits 50 minutes east of Málaga at the foot of the Sierras de Almijara, where the Costa del Sol meets the more rugged Costa Tropical. It is a small town — about 21,000 residents — built around the Balcón de Europa, a cliff-top promenade with one of the most photographed views in Andalusia. Where the western Costa del Sol is largely international, Nerja remains genuinely Spanish: tapas bars on the main square, fishermen working out of Burriana beach, and a daily rhythm that hasn't been overwritten by tourism. The British community here is well-integrated rather than dominant. New construction is rare (the urban plan deliberately restricts it), so most stock is renovated village apartments, low-rise developments around Burriana, and detached villas in Capistrano and Maro. Prices are roughly half of Marbella's and the new E-15 motorway has shortened Málaga airport to 50 minutes.
