The drive
90 minutes from Marbella centre via the A-397 — one of Andalucía's great drives. Bring sunglasses; the morning light into the Serranía is fierce.
What to actually see
- Puente Nuevo at sunrise (before tour groups arrive at 11).
- Plaza de Toros — the oldest bullring in Spain.
- Casa del Rey Moro gardens for the views.
- Jardines de Cuenca for the Puente Nuevo angle Instagram doesn't tell you about.
- Iglesia Santa María la Mayor — quietly stunning.
Lunch
Tragatá — Benito Gómez's small-plates institution. Book. Bardal — two-Michelin-star tasting menu, lunch sitting if you book ahead. Restaurante Pedro Romero opposite the bullring — old-school Ronda, oxtail stew the city is famous for.
