The shortlist

After thousands of family relocations, the same five zones come up repeatedly: Nueva Andalucía, El Paraíso / Atalaya, Sotogrande, Benahavís village, and Cancelada. Each solves the school-community-safety triangle in a slightly different way.

Nueva Andalucía

Walking distance to Aloha College, Swans, and EIC. Big community of UK, Scandinavian and Dutch families. Padel courts everywhere. The trade-off: summer traffic is brutal.

El Paraíso / Atalaya

A 10-minute drive lands you at Atalaya Colegio Internacional, Laude San Pedro, and Sotogrande International's primary feeder. Quiet, very safe, family-villa stock with gardens.

Sotogrande

Sotogrande International School is genuinely one of Europe's best. The community is multi-generational and global. Trade-off: 50 minutes from Marbella, 25 from Gibraltar.

Benahavís village

Real Spanish village life with British school runs. Restaurants, no nightclubs, walking-distance friendships. Best fit if you want your kids to actually integrate.

Cancelada

The value pick. Brand-new urbanisations, 10 minutes from Estepona's Mayfair International Academy and Atalaya's network. Better price per m² than Nueva Andalucía.

What to optimise for

School run under 15 minutes. A walkable plaza. At least one other family from your home country within five minutes. Resale liquidity — gated communities with under 60 units hold value best.
