Sailing and marinas on the Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol has roughly 13 working marinas across 150km of coast. They divide into two groups — the four large marinas that can accept superyachts and offer year-round service infrastructure (Puerto Banús, Sotogrande, Benalmádena, Málaga), and the smaller marinas serving local boats and smaller cruising yachts.

Superyacht-capable marinas

Puerto Banús (Marbella) — 915 berths, 50m maximum, depth 5m. Sotogrande Marina — 1,400 berths across the marina and Ribera del Marlin inner basin, 50m maximum. Benalmádena Marina — large but more leisure-focused. Málaga Port and its Muelle Uno extension — accepts the largest yachts on the coast and serves as a refit destination.

Mid-size marinas

Estepona Marina — 443 berths, calm and well-positioned. Cabopino (Marbella East) — 170 berths, small and characterful. La Duquesa (Manilva) — 328 berths, working fishing port and leisure mix. Fuengirola Marina, Caleta de Vélez, La Bajadilla (Marbella) — local-boat focused.

Berthing costs and waitlists

Puerto Banús and Sotogrande superyacht berths trade hands at significant premiums — annual contracts plus title transfer for the largest slips. Mid-size monthly mooring for a 12m boat in season runs €600–1,500 depending on marina. Always verify with the harbour office; rates and availability shift each spring.
